NCSO Debrief – March 2024

Division A

  1. For pasta tower in division A, what is permitted for the glue? Specifically, are glue accelerators allowed?

There is nothing in the rules that limits the glue you can use.  They simply state “constructed only of pasta and glue” – So that leaves it wide open.

States

  1. Does state competition use the State Tree list for forestry or do we switch to the national list?

The State Forestry list will be used.

  1. When will Avogadro be available for us to put our team members in and sign up for self-schedule?

Account access is being released to coaches over the coming days.  Once everyone has access, we will email coaches information on how to enter rosters in Avogadro and when and how to self-schedule events on the schedule listed as self-schedule.

  1. Do the “state only” events at the state tournament count towards the team points or are they treated like trial events?

The State only events will count like all over regular events.  They will count toward the overall score.  Trial events earn medals but are not included in the overall team score.

  1. What forms are required for the State Tournament?

Coaches received this information in an email.  Coaches already completed the Coach Agreement form for Regionals so there is no need to complete that again.  Teams do, however, need to resubmit the team Photo Consent Form and alternates need to be included.

  1. Some of the schedules say tentative? Are they still tentative or confirmed?

Posted schedules are confirmed – but there are always last minute changes needed that are out of our control.  Any last minute scheduling changes will be communicated out to coaches as soon as they arise.

Misc.

  1. When will you post the events for the 2024-2025 NCSO season?

Division A – we (NCSO) release the Division A rules in the summer – we strive for a July/August release.

Division B/C – is entirely controlled by National Science Olympiad.  They often release the upcoming slate of events in the early summer, but official event rules are not released until Labor Day.
