Bungee Drop
Division: Div C – High School
Event Rules: See the National Rules Manual
National Event Page: Here
Clarifications: This event will only run at the State Tournament for teams that qualify.
Description:
Each team will design one elastic cord to conduct drops at a given height(s) and attempt to get a mass placed in a bottle as close as possible to, but without touching, a landing surface.
Materials:
Teams must impound only one elastic cord, calibration data (if prepared), and any tools used by teams to confirm height, lengths, or mass. The calibration data are the only paper or notes allowed into the competition area. Electric and electronic devices are allowed. Eye protection with the ANSI marking Z87+ is required. Teams may bring up to two stand-alone non-programmable, non-graphing calculators.
Supervisors will supply drop height values, light and heavy mass values and heights, and drop instructions.
Scoring:
Lowest Score wins. Final score = (Height Score 1 + Height Score 2) + Bonus Drop.
Height Score is the minimum drop score for two drops for each height.
Drop Score = Drop Distance + Bonus
If the bottom of the mass is dropped within the distance of the BTDD at it’s lowest point on the bonus drop, the Bonus Drop will be -15.0 points.
Devices with construction parameter violations will be ranked in the 2nd tier beneath those with no violations. Devices, tools, or calibration data notes that were not impounded will be ranked in the 3rd tier.
The first tiebreaker is determined by success in the bonus drop, the second by the number of drops completed with the heavy mass, the third by the team with the lowest individual score for any drop, and the fourth by the lowest non-scored drop score.
