Description:

Students will test and characterize one substance and then, based only on data they collect, answer a series of questions about that substance. Students will not be asked to identify the substance. Emphasis of this event is on the quality of data collected, answering questions about the substance and providing data to support their answers.

Materials:

Each team may bring any or all of the items listed on the Division B Chemistry Events Lab Equipment List found in the Official Rules Manual. Pens or pencils will be provided by the Event Leader. Items not listed on the List are prohibited. Participants must wear goggles, an apron or lab coat and have skin covered from the neck down to the wrist and toes. Gloves are optional. Hair must be tied back. The Event Leader will provide NaOH, HCl, waste containers, wash bottle with distilled water, as well as other equipment.

Scoring:

High score wins. Tiebreakers are listed in the Official Event Rules.
