Clarifications:

A number of very important FAQs and Rules Clarifications have been published since our Coaches Clinic. The probability of a team being tiered or receiving a 10% deduction is very high if coaches do not keep up-to-date on the rules.

The big one (will get you tiered) concerns the charger. As you know, sourcing parts has been a major headache for kit vendors and coaches. The charger (battery box) being supplied by the kit makers and being independently sourced from cheap battery powered toys are not “legal” IF they contain an on-off switch. Every charger I have seen so far contains this illegal switch. One vendor has even advertised a charger with a push button switch and a pilot light to indicate a full charge. This is a double whammy because both the switch and charge (voltage) indicator are excluded by the rules. The switch has to be REMOVED not just disabled. All of this is covered and explained on the FAQ page for EWS. The excuse “that is the way it came in the kit” will not cut it.

The second concerns the Log Book. New this year is all measurements have to be logged (recorded) in metric units. In the USA balsa wood is sold with English measurements, rubber size and torque (for Div C Wright Stuff) is sold and measured with English measurements, gym size and flight height are measured with English measurements. Everything has to be converted to metrics! One slip up in data recording (old habits die hard) will result in a 10% Incomplete Log Book penalty deduction.
