Description:

Participants will be asked to identify insects and selected immature insects by indicated taxonomy (order, subclass, or family), answer questions about insects, and use or construct a dichotomous key. All specimens will be representatives of insects found in the Contiguous United States. 

Materials:

Students may bring one 2″ binder. Sheet protectors, laminations, tabs, and labels are permitted. No material may be removed from the binder throughout the event. Teams may also bring a commercially produced field guide, one hand lens or magnifying glass, and, in addition to the resource binder, one copy of the 2026 National, State, or Regional Entomology List.

Scoring:

The highest score wins. Pre-selected questions will be used as tiebreakers.
